Maiseyeu Laboratory: About Us
Our research team develops nanotechnology tools to better understand and treat cardiometabolic and immune-related diseases, including atherosclerosis, cardiac fibrosis, type 2 diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s, and systemic lupus erythematosus. We engineer, fabricate, and evaluate advanced drug delivery systems, particularly polymeric nanoparticles and viral gene-delivery vectors, to improve therapeutic precision and efficacy.
Current efforts focus on polymeric nanoparticles that enhance cell-therapy delivery, explore their epigenetic and immunometabolic effects, and modulate B-cell function and immune signaling. We are also developing gene circuits that selectively silence gene expression. Complementary work continues to examine lipoprotein biology, immune-cell metabolism, and the broader toxicological impacts of synthetic and environmental nano- and microparticles on cardiometabolic health.
